My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ryder is a sweet 3 year old catahoula mix who found himself on the euthanasia list when his family didn’t want to secure him in the yard, he would run to the elementary school everyday to kiss the kids.

Ryder was pulled into a temp foster and made his way to Illinois. Ryder, a playful and affectionate dog, is a joy to have around. He loves all dogs big and small, cats, and kids even as young as 2, making him a great family pet. Initially, he may be a bit shy around some men, but he quickly warms up and becomes very affectionate.

Ryder is potty trained and knows the basic commands “sit” and takes treats gently. He only chews on toys and bones, ensuring his safety and the safety of your belongings. His intelligence is evident as he listens attentively and loves treats. With consistent training, he has the potential to learn even more tricks and commands.

Ryder is also a great car companion and is working on crate training. While he may pull on the leash occasionally, he is a fast learner and is eager to please. Despite his playful energy, he also knows how to relax and take a nap on the couch.

One of Ryder’s most endearing qualities is his beautiful eyes and adorable pink nose. He’s sure to win you over with his charm and affection.

Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping.

In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process.

If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application.

Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.
