If you are looking for a fur buddy to keep you company while you watch TV or relax on your couch after a long day at work, Shamu may be the right cat for you. He is quite the character and is a grumpy old man sometimes. He can be selective about when he will allow guests or strangers the privilege of petting him except when he is outdoors. When he is outside with his foster mom he is always in a good mood and greets any neighbor that shows him the least bit of attention. His foster mom leash trained him because he loves to be outdoors and he is so happy when he is outside. He is afraid of dogs so his foster mom limits his walks to the front yard of her apartment building. Unfortunately, as big as he is, he is a senior cat and would be hopeless in a fight with another cat, a dog or a coyote so he definitely needs to be on a leash with his human while enjoying the outdoors. Shamu had dental surgery and only has his canines left but that does nothing to hinder his love of Temptations treats, though wet food and Churu’s are his top favorites.

Shamu would be happiest in a single-pet home.

We adopt animals to homes in the Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.

To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Kitten Rescue. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. First, we ask that you complete our Adoption Questionnaire at kittenrescue.org/cat-adoption-form/. You can complete the form online or you may stop by a weekly adoption event to complete form in person. Second, a home visit or a home delivery of the cat or kitten is also required as part of our adoption process.

The Kitten Rescue adoption fee is $150 for a kitten or cat up to 10 years old, and $100 for each additional kitten or cat to the same household ($250 if you adopt a pair). Cats above 10 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, for an adoption fee of $75 each.

All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA.

Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 2,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.
