Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Come meet me and 100+ of my adoptable friends at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue's MEGA adoption event, Home for the Holidays! Saturday, December 13th, 2025 at Paradise Island in Staten Island from 11am - 3pm!
Between Dec, 1st-15th, part of my adoption fee is sponsored! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters campaign, my new family can take me home for $70!
Meet Shelby! Shelby is a 2.5-year-old, 47-pound pittie mix with a heart as big as her smile. She was found in rural Texas earlier this year while pregnant and soon gave birth to nine healthy puppies—all of whom have found loving homes. Now it’s Shelby’s turn to find her forever family!
This smart, gentle girl is housebroken, crate trained, and perfectly behaved when left alone—no destruction, just patience and good manners. Shelby loves spending her days watching squirrels from the window, playing tug-of-war or fetch, and snuggling with her people. She gets along very well with the other dog in her foster home, but does have a prey drive, so would likely do bset in a home without cats.
She has medium energy—always up for a nice walk or a play session, but just as happy to curl up on the couch for a cozy nap. Shelby is full of love, affection, and loyalty, and she’ll make a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a sweet, easygoing best friend.
Shelby is currently being fostered in Freehold, NJ. Her adoption fee is $475.

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
