Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Larry!
Larry is an almost 2 year old, 30-pound mixed-breed pup who is learning—at his own pace—that the world can be a safe and loving place. While we don’t know much about his life before rescue, it’s clear he faced some challenges that left him shy and cautious. But since arriving in his foster home, Larry has already made heartwarming progress.
When he first arrived, Larry was so nervous that he stayed curled up on the floor, keeping his distance. Now, he spends most of the day outside of his pen, hanging out with his foster family in the living room. He has even started following his foster mom around the first floor, pausing a few feet away whenever she stops. One of his biggest milestones came just recently—Larry bravely climbed the stairs for the very first time to look for his foster mom when she returned to work after.
Larry is still working on house training, but he’s making strides. He now sleeps through the night without soiling his pen, often putting himself to bed by trotting into his cozy spot at bedtime. During the day, he mostly uses wee-wee pads, though he’s still figuring it out!
Leash walking is also a work in progress—Larry is still unsure about being outside and finds the leash a bit scary. For now, his foster keeps a leash on him indoors to help him get comfortable, and he’s already doing better with having it put on and taken off. With time, love, and patience, those outdoor adventures will come.
Larry is looking for a very patient, understanding adopter who can let him set the pace as he continues to grow in confidence. A calm, confident dog in the home may help guide him, too. With compassion, consistency, and love, Larry will surely continue transforming into the “huge little love” he’s meant to be.
Larry is currently being fostered in West New York, NJ. His adoption fee is $475.
To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt
All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
