At 14 years young, Coconut is a super senior Shih Tzu with a gentle spirit and a heart full of love to give. She came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control, and now she’s hoping to find a kind-hearted person who can give her the comfort and care she deserves in her golden years.
Coconut may have a few lumps, bumps, and medical needs (please ask our staff for details), but she doesn't let that get her down. She moves through life with quiet grace, and all she really wants is a warm, safe place to rest, a soft spot on the couch, and someone who will love her just the way she is.
Seniors like Coconut don’t ask for much—just time, patience, and a whole lot of heart. In return, she’ll give you gentle companionship, quiet loyalty, and the kind of soulful connection that only comes from a dog who’s seen a lot and still chooses love.

Border Tails Rescue is a licensed no-kill animal rescue and welfare organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of stray dogs across the world, with a unique focus on Mexico. Border Tails Rescue has a physical shelter facility with dogs on site for viewing everyday. Border Tails Rescue primarily works with rural shelters across the country, including but not limited to TX, AR, AL, LA, KY, IN, and MI on a regular basis as well as CACC, Chicago’s open intake shelter. BTR is Woman-founded by Harleigh Garcia, who was 20 years old at the time. The organization was founded in December of 2019 and Border Tails Rescue is registered with Illinois Secretary of State as a non profit organization. Border Tails Rescue operates entirely on donations and adoption fees.
