My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Do you have a velcro cat who you love dearly, but you need a teensy bit of time free (not too much of course!), to do occasional non-essential stuff like work and eat? Does your cat like other cats but you were reluctant to bring another cat who would demand more of your attention? If so, Mr November is the cat you have been looking for!

Mr November is deserving of the formal title as he is a king of a cat!. Mr November was found abandoned in a carrier in late fall of 2024, in the month of November, hence the name! He arrived scared of the world, quite understandably. It took several months of patient care, for Mr November to feel comfortable enough to be around humans. His socialization journey has been slow, but every little accepted scritch of the head is celebrated! Mr November is a majestic tabby, weighing in at 15 pounds. However this is all body mass, not fat!

Mr November’s personality has slowly been revealed as he has gotten comfortable and felt safe. Mr November is cat friendly and initiates appropriate play with his cat mates. He is also very deferential to any alpha cat in his territory, even though he outweighs most other cat mates! He is incredibly inquisitive of his surroundings, and passionate about mealtime. It is such a joy to come home to him as he always greets his humans at the door. As we like to call his alarm clock “belly bell”, at exactly an hour and a half prior to mealtimes (and 30 minutes post mealtimes for dessert), he begins his curious rounds of his territory, eventually perching by his foodbowl to start his his assertive intermittent meowling, his “call of the wild”. To Mr November fans, it’s a great music soundtrack, but you definitely have to be a fan of a chatty cat to welcome Mr November into your home!

Mr November is also a phd level mealtime head butter. And at 15 pounds, you need to be standing firmly and have good balance, as his head butts will definitely get your attention, as intended! It is the most fun part of mealtime, imho! For snacks, he has not shown any interest in meat tubes or freeze dried foods, and will only eat kibble. We don’t recommend the temptation like snacks as they get him way too overexcited. With kibble, we have taught him to sit and fistbump, so it is the perfect level of enticing without being too overstimulating. He is a scavenger and counter surfer however, so if you have been wanting to improve your habits of keeping the kitchen clean, this would be a perfect fit as he will jump on the counters and the stove for any food crumbs. We’d recommend the childproof oven knob protectors to prevent any risk of the burners being turned on accidentally.

Mr November’s play style is definitely in the “short attention span” category! You don’t have to worry about your arm getting tired, because he is 15 to 30 second spurts at most! He gets so excited though when that toy comes out that he lets out a delighted toy squeal and drops and curls in anticipation. He is an avid fan of any toy he can turn into a kicker, and will often amuse himself with catnip kicker toys, showing his predator skills.

Mr November has no medical issues. He appears to have an old injury to his back right leg area which causes him discomfort upon examination, but does not in any way hinder his movement. He climbs on all surfaces and all levels of the cat furniture.

Mr November still has a journey to enjoy being pet. If he is approached and you let him sniff and see your hand, he will allow pets to his head and neck. It is very easy to tell when he has had enough, as he will gently shake his head, to which we always give him praise and reinforcement, I mean, how polite is that! He does not like to be pet when he lies down, which we think may have something to do with that potential older injury as he is more protective of his body. But even if you do succumb to his cuteness and forget yourself and pet his frame, the worst response will be a swat to your hand, nails not intentionally out, although they are generally long as we do not want to stress him by cutting his nails. He has not used his nails however to scratch up any furniture and uses all cat scratchers enthusiastically, especially the super tall ones for his big frame!

We adore Mr November and know that he is deserving of a home living the rest of his days with an enthusiastic cat play partner, and to be admired furrever as the majestic cat he is!

More about this rescue

Puppy Kitty NYC was founded in the Fall of 2014. As of July 2018, we are an official 501(c)(3) organization.
