Hi, My name is Rosie and I am excited to tell you about myself. I am a 1.5 year old, 42 pound, female border collie/heeler mix. My foster mom says I am a very sweet and very good girl and that I am really pretty. I would like to tell you a bit about myself and my ideal home…

I would do best with an active, experienced herding dog family with another playful dog about my same size. A home with some acreage with a generous fenced area would be ideal. Could be a farm, a single-family home on acreage, or a cabin near the beach or on an island. It would be a great life for me if I could have space, be surrounded by nature, and live with a loving human or two so I could feel safe and blossom. I think if the adopters had children 12 or older that were able to be consistent with my training and understood how to be chill and keep me safe, then I could be happy in such a family.

I am not destructive and I have yet to bark in my foster home. I am fully housebroken and I have a great recall once I am attached to the person I am coming back to. I am a very good traveler and I love the water! I sleep in a crate quietly all night but am learning that the couch is a pretty comfy place to hang out during the daytime. At first, I can be fearful and skittish. Once I settle in, I am always watching and observing the sights around me such as birds, people, squirrels, other dogs, traffic, etc. I am learning how to “play ball”, er, or at least how to catch the ball. The bringing it back part needs a little work.

When I say my new family has to have “herding dog experience” that is because I would not be a good dog for an inexperienced owner. I have some, er, sensitive areas of my temperament that will need to be understood so I can be successful. I have some resource guarding issues with "my" things. My toys, the ball, my food, dental chews, all are some items that I am not completely comfortable sharing with other dogs. To be clear, I resource-guarded with the foster's dog but not with people. It was a show of teeth, no lunging or biting, but still, best to be cautious. The foster family simply feeds us separately or feeds me in my crate and it seems to do the trick. I also can be fearful and skittish with new people and unfamiliar situations, so having experienced adopters that will love me and make me feel safe and a friendly and playful dog in my new household will be ideal for my confidence and security.
