My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2024 Dark Bay Appalachian Brumby Filly

Meet Cyclone, a charming filly rescued from the feral herds of eastern Kentucky. She is just beginning her training, but she already shows a big personality and a zest for life, especially when food is involved!

Cyclone is always the first to greet you in the field and will happily follow you anywhere. She is learning about boundaries so that she can channel her enthusiasm respectfully. This intelligent and spirited filly will do best with an adopter who can enjoy her personality while maintaining clear expectations.

She is currently on 2.5 pounds of McCauley’s M30, a hoof supplement, and a joint supplement daily to support healthy growth and development. Cyclone will thrive with a confident, experienced trainer who understands the needs of young, unstarted horses.

Though still young, Cyclone is already proving to be a willing and engaged partner. She ties well, picks up her feet, and has been excellent for our farrier. She also enjoys a rinse with the hose and accepts fly spray and fly masks without issue.

Cyclone is gaited but has also trotted and cantered freely in the field, and her trainer can encourage either direction. With her intelligence, energy, and eagerness to learn, Cyclone has a bright future ahead and is ready to grow alongside the right person.

Adoption Process

Once a complete application is received, KYEAC will begin the screening process. This usually takes about 5-7 days, depending upon how easy it is to make contact with your references.

KYEAC will notify you when your application has been approved, and you may then make an appointment with KYEAC to visit the equine(s) you are interested in adopting.

Adopters are responsible for transportation arrangements and costs at the time of the adoption and in the event of return.

Adoption fees are non-refundable.

Please also note that Adopter agrees that the adopted equine may not be raced, bred, sold, given away or assigned by the Adopter, except as otherwise provided in the adoption contract.

Further, we require adopters to complete an inspection on the adopted equine at 6 and 12 months after the date of the adoption. Provided the photos and veterinary report from these two inspections are satisfactory, KYEAC will then transfer full ownership of the equine to the Adopter at 12 months via a transfer letter.

More about this rescue

The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center (KyEAC) is the largest all-breed equine rescue in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Nestled on 72 acres in the rolling hills of Jessamine County, KyEAC is the home and training ground for approximately 50 equines at all stages of rehabilitation and retraining. We are not a sanctuary; part of our mission is to find the perfect home and purpose for all of our horses–from high level dressage to therapeutic equine companions, from trail horses to pasture ponies.
