My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2006 Chestnut Tennessee Walking Horse Mare

Registered as Jazz N Glory but affectionately called Red, this mare is already making an impression with her sweet nature.

Red is available as a non-riding companion due to a diagnosis of grade 3 neurological symptoms and DSLD (Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis). She is gentle and easy to handle, but will need a home with someone experienced in managing both DSLD and neurological conditions.

True to her easygoing nature, Red is food-motivated and enjoys attention. Because she spent most of her life on rocky ground with very little grass, she has developed a sensitivity to pasture and will need a dry-lot type field. She is also deeply bonded to Carl, her companion of the last 12 years, and we would love to see them placed together.

Currently, Red is maintained on 1 pound of McCauley's M30 and Zyrtec to help manage her seasonal allergies.

Adoption Process

Once a complete application is received, KYEAC will begin the screening process. This usually takes about 5-7 days, depending upon how easy it is to make contact with your references.

KYEAC will notify you when your application has been approved, and you may then make an appointment with KYEAC to visit the equine(s) you are interested in adopting.

Adopters are responsible for transportation arrangements and costs at the time of the adoption and in the event of return.

Adoption fees are non-refundable.

Please also note that Adopter agrees that the adopted equine may not be raced, bred, sold, given away or assigned by the Adopter, except as otherwise provided in the adoption contract.

Further, we require adopters to complete an inspection on the adopted equine at 6 and 12 months after the date of the adoption. Provided the photos and veterinary report from these two inspections are satisfactory, KYEAC will then transfer full ownership of the equine to the Adopter at 12 months via a transfer letter.

More about this rescue

The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center (KyEAC) is the largest all-breed equine rescue in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Nestled on 72 acres in the rolling hills of Jessamine County, KyEAC is the home and training ground for approximately 50 equines at all stages of rehabilitation and retraining. We are not a sanctuary; part of our mission is to find the perfect home and purpose for all of our horses–from high level dressage to therapeutic equine companions, from trail horses to pasture ponies.
