My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Sunflower aka Psych (also responds to Psy)

Breed: Pitbull/Lab + Dogo Argentino

Sex/Age/Weight: Female/ DOB 04/12/2023 /83lbs

Vetting: Up to date on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventatives

House trained/Crate Trained: I stay in an outside kennel most of the time, but when I come in I do very well in my crate.

Dogs/Cats/Children: I love other dogs and adults, anyone who can play with me. I haven’t had any interactions with children, but I love to play with anybody. The biggest concern would be my size – I am a very tall, muscular dog. I have not been observed around cats, but I can be tested upon request

Energy Level: Medium-high. I could play an endless game of fetch, but when playtime is over I like to be showered with pets.

Before FAR/My History: I am a FAR pup who was adopted out as a puppy and stayed with my owner until November 2024. Due to no fault of my own, my prior adopter could not keep me and turned me into a shelter. I was on the euthanasia list until FAR found out and brought me back into the program. I spent the holidays with my new foster family learning how to be part of the pack. I have several foster siblings from FAR – Schultz, Sheila aka Havoc, Oscar, Java, Weebles, and Wobbles – and I get to play with my foster’s personal dogs too, so I have a wide range of experience with different breeds. My former name was Sunflower, but that did not fit me well in my new home. I got my new name because I am very intimidating from afar, but as soon as you get close enough to know me *PSYCH* I am just a bundle of love and happiness!

Training Status/Commands I know: I recall very well to the training collar beep, I will “sit” for you sometimes but I really don’t know why you would ask me to, and I am very good at bringing the ball/toy back for fetch.

Things I like: Fetch! I love chasing a ball or toy or anything that you will throw to me. I do like playing with the other dogs if the human is too busy to play fetch, but I would prefer an hours-long game of fetch. When I play with the dogs, I want them to chase me while I have a ball in my mouth.
I get along well with all the dogs that I live with, but my favorites by far are an older male pit and a male German Shepherd who are around my age. I love car rides and trips to the store.

Things I don’t like: I don’t like to be left out if others are out playing. I really don’t like large trash cans or similar shapes that stand very still…it freaks me out. Also blow-up Christmas decorations make me uneasy.

Things that make my humans happy: My perseverance and intelligence – I was plucked out of the only home I have ever known and put into a completely different atmosphere, and even though I had to take it slowly at first, I adapted to my new home so well. That is how I process everything: first I will probably growl/bark at something new, but after I ease into it, I learn it’s not so bad. I have met so many people and dogs and new things since I returned to FAR and (with the exception of the trash cans and an inflatable Santa) I have learned to love them all.

Ideal Family/Home: Because of my size and strength, I would probably do better with adults and older kids/teens. I am a young dog, and I’ve got a lot of energy. I also have a big voice – my bark is deep and my whine is high-pitched. I don’t always use them, but when I do they are loud so a home with no sensitive ears/neighbors is probably best. I also have little sense of personal space so if you are in the market for an athletic, 83lb lap dog, look no further!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the potential adopter filling out an adoption application. In the application, you can specify a particular dog in which you are interested, or let us know what type of pet in which you are looking, so we can find the perfect animal to fit your family and your needs. Once the application is received, a board member will review the application, and make contact with the potential adopter within 48 hours. This initial contact may include further questions/more information, or may include scheduling a meet and greet for you to meet the animal in which you are interested! Once the application is approved or the meet and greet goes well, then the adoption can be finalized. To finalize the adoption, an adoption agreement must be completed, the adoption fee paid (we accept cash, paypal, or credit/debit card), and then the potential adopter can take their new family member home with them or schedule pick up of their furry family member! The adoption fee varies based on the dog or puppy you are interested in. Some of the adoption fees have been listed on the individual dog's description but if you do not see one then please reach out and we would be happy to talk to you about it! If you are interested in any of our animals, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!!

Go meet their pets

We hold adoption events some Saturdays at various locations around middle GA from 11 am-3 pm. Check our Facebook page for updates on Events! We are also able to arrange meet and greets for local adopters!

More about this rescue

Furever After Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a no-kill, foster-based rescue devoted to finding homes for animals needing a loving home. Most of our animals come from local, high-kill shelters with some occasionally coming from bad situations and owner surrender. Our animals are immediately placed in foster homes where they learn love and are taught how to live in a home environment. All of our animals are up-to-date on their age-appropriate vetting needs and are tested for personality traits as best as possible. We have many wonderful pets looking for forever homes!
