Freya von Frankfurt is a youthful and beautiful 6-7-year-old German Shepherd. Like her namesake goddess in Norse mythology, Freya's defining qualities are her affectionate and loving nature. She'll gently offer you her paw to signal affection or more boldly flop her head on your shoulder lovingly. She is a pro at catching balls on the fly and can play that game for hours with her foster dad. Freya is housebroken, well-behaved in the home and great with children and other dogs. She currently lives with three kids between the ages of 12 and 16 and three German Shepherds in her foster home. Freya also passed her small dog test at the shelter. As a German Shepherd, Freya sports an impressively high IQ. She knows her basic commands, is very in tune to her handler and always eager to learn something new. Freya is waiting for her opportunity to enter your home and heart. She is one Nordic goddess you have to meet!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.
Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
