My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Courtesy Post – Meet Kaia! ❄️ NOTE THE DOG IS NOT AT THE SHELTER

Kaia is a striking 3-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix who is looking for a temporary home while her owner navigates a housing transition. Her person hopes to be reunited with her once living circumstances are stable again, and is looking for someone kind and experienced who can give Kaia the care and love she deserves in the meantime.

Kaia is:

  • Up to date on vaccinations

  • Potty trained and crate trained

  • Friendly with kids and has lived with other dogs

  • Allows people to take food and toys without issue

Kaia has been primarily an indoor companion and is used to being part of the family. She’s intelligent, loving, and has the loyal heart of both breeds in her mix. Like many shepherd-types, she bonds strongly with her people and will thrive in a structured and supportive home.

Note: Kaia was involved in one incident that was categorized as a bite, but it did not involve a full bite—just a small scratch that broke the skin. The victim did not require stitches, and the behavior has not been repeated. Her owner reports she is generally friendly and well-mannered around children and others.

Kaia would be a great fit for someone with experience in shepherd or husky breeds, or someone who can offer time, attention, and a safe space for a very loved dog.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

*The shelter is currently open for adoptions by appointment only. Please email us at adoptycas@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting.
For other shelter services, please call us at (530) 668-5287*

To adopt you must have a photo ID and proof of your current address. If not on your ID then bring in a bill with your name and your current address. If you rent you must provide a lease clearly stating the pet policy or provide a name and phone number for your landlord so that we may confirm the pet policy. If you own your home you may provide a mortgage statement or property tax bill for proof.

You must be 18 years or older to adopt.

If you wish to adopt a dog and have other dog(s) at home, please bring them with you to the shelter so that they may meet. Even if your dog is wonderful with other dogs, many of the dogs at the shelter have come in as strays so we have no history on them and need to be sure they get along with your pet(s).

If you have any other questions, please go to www.yolocountysheriff.com or call the shelter for more information.
