My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Courtesy Post – Meet Jax! NOTE JAX IS NOT AT THE SHELTER

Jax is a 5-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix with a big heart, playful spirit, and a truly one-of-a-kind look (yes, those are two different colored eyes!). His family is making the difficult decision to rehome him due to changes in their household—particularly the needs of their senior dog, who is no longer able to keep up with Jax’s energy. After a long and loving search for a new home, they’re now asking for help to find the right match.

Jax is:

  • Neutered

  • Potty trained

  • Good with kids and dogs (but would thrive in a home where he’s the only pet)

  • Friendly with visitors once he’s had a moment to settle

  • Protective of his home—he’ll bark to alert you if someone approaches

Jax has lived happily both indoors and outdoors, and loves walks, fetch, and cuddling up with his humans. He’s also a bit of a goofball—his favorite pastime? Suckling on stuffed animals while lounging on his bed! He’s also a natural in front of the camera and loves striking a pose for photos.

While Jax has previously lived with another dog and young children, his current owner recommends a home without other pets or small kids so he can truly shine and get the one-on-one attention he craves.

A note on behavior: Jax can get excited around new people, especially if they’re nervous around dogs. But once he’s had a sniff and knows you’re a friend, he’ll settle right in. He also likes to jump along fences when other animals are nearby—but he’s quiet when the neighborhood is.

Jax has been a beloved companion for the past three years, and his family is heartbroken to let him go, but hopeful he’ll find a home where he can be cherished and given the attention he deserves.

Additional adoption info

*The shelter is currently open for adoptions by appointment only. Please email us at adoptycas@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting.
For other shelter services, please call us at (530) 668-5287*

To adopt you must have a photo ID and proof of your current address. If not on your ID then bring in a bill with your name and your current address. If you rent you must provide a lease clearly stating the pet policy or provide a name and phone number for your landlord so that we may confirm the pet policy. If you own your home you may provide a mortgage statement or property tax bill for proof.

You must be 18 years or older to adopt.

If you wish to adopt a dog and have other dog(s) at home, please bring them with you to the shelter so that they may meet. Even if your dog is wonderful with other dogs, many of the dogs at the shelter have come in as strays so we have no history on them and need to be sure they get along with your pet(s).

If you have any other questions, please go to www.yolocountysheriff.com or call the shelter for more information.
