My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Fee: $250
Age: 8 years
Weight: 6 lbs.
Fostered in Baton Rouge, LA
Email: bryorkiemom@yahoo.com

7/30/25 - Lexi's visit with Internal Medicine at CAVS showed that Lexi is in the early stage of renal disease. She will need to stay on the medicine she is currently on, Benazapril, and stay on her diet of K/D soft and hard mixed. Thank goodness, she LOVES it.

With aging, comes medical issues. This is true in humans and animals alike. However, that does not discount the life we have left. Lexi is a vibrant, intelligent, sweetheart of a lady that has as many years left as we all do... Unknown. She definitely does not act or feel as if anything is wrong, so we are not about to tell her any different. With that being said, the only upkeep to stay on top of her condition will be bi-yearly bloodwork, checking the protein in her urine, her creatinine and her albumin levels. Show me a human that does not go to the doctor a little more for preventative check-ups as they get older.

Lexi loves the other pups in her foster home, but isn't much on playing. She just loves to cuddle with them. She would like a more calm house that focuses on the kids with four furry legs and enjoys the day going outside when it isn't too hot and watching tv with her foster mom and fur-siblings.'

Sleeping in human bed is a must and 100% unconditional love and affection from her humans is a must. Look at that face and tell us that she can't be picky on choosing her next home!

7/21/25 - Lexi was surrendered to YHR because her owners were displaced and could not take care of her any longer. On her initial vet visit, she was very anemic (but was covered with fleas, so that could have been the problem) and her blood and urine testing indicated possible kidney issues. She was started on a kidney diet and Benazapril and showed only mild improvement; so she is being referred to an Internal Med Specialist at Capital Area Veterinary Associates.

We are still accessing Lexi's personality and will definitely update soon on her likes, dislikes and her medical status, but for now, we do know that she is an angel. She loves attention, loves to sleep in bed with her owners, eats great, might make a mistake here and there, but for the most part, does her business outside and has a very happy disposition. She doesn't play with any of the other pups in her foster home, but none of them seem to bother her.

More about this rescue

Yorkie Haven Rescue Group is an approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit and was founded in 2006. Our caring volunteers share their many talents to ensure that all yorkies we rescue from "throwaway land" are safe and can live their lives in a loving, healthy and safe environment - a haven where they will be forever loved.

We have a wonderful base of volunteers located throughout the United States, have no paid staff and are funded solely by kind donations from the public. Before any rescue is placed in a forever home, the pup is spayed/neutered, heartworm checked and made current on all vaccines.
