My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.

Adopting a friend:
The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.

What you need to do to adopt:
If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done.

Meet & Greets:
An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.

Hi, I’m Tucker — a three-year-old, 89 lb Lab mix with a heart as big as my paws and soft brown eyes that are always searching for approval. Those eyes have seen some hard days… I was rescued at the very last second from a scary shelter where my time was up. I didn’t think anyone was coming for me because I didn't matter — but then, someone did. Ever since, I’ve been trying my best to show just how thankful I am.

I’m a big, happy guy who loves life’s simple joys. Stuffed toys? Ohhh, I LOVE them — they make me so happy I could wag my tail right off! Fetch is another favorite, especially if it means showing you how fast I can bring things back. I also can catch the ball in the air! And if you tell me I’m a good boy when I bark at the door to let you know someone’s there, I’ll beam with pride, knowing I’ve done my job… then I’ll happily go find a toy or wait for some ear rubs, belly rubs, pats on the head, hugs or best of all...kisses.

I’m a well-mannered guy — loving, gentle, and loyal. I sit properly waiting for you to put on my leash. I walk great on a leash. My foster mom bought a new harness for me to use and well, that has made all the difference in the world for me. It makes me behave even if I see those obnoxious squirrels or bunnies. It has some kind of magic or something.

On walks, I tend to do well passing other dogs, giving them a polite hello or just minding my own business. I’ve been gentle with the two little dogs in my foster home, but I can tell they’re a bit nervous around me because of my size. The truth is, I’d be happiest as the only pet — the one who gets all your love and attention. I want to be your world and I’ll make you mine.

I enjoy meeting new people, following my person from room to room, laying at your feet or nearby, I enjoy hanging out in the fenced-in yard, watching the world go by (and maybe keeping an eye out for those pesky squirrels). I even know how to sit and shake! I’m fine in a crate, though I don’t really need one — sometimes I even go lie down in it with the door open. Car rides? Yes please. Adventures? I’m your copilot.

But here’s the thing… I’ve been waiting too long. And I don’t just want “a home.” I want my home. The one where I’m loved, cherished, and never have to wonder if I’ll be left behind again.

If you have room in your life for a gentle giant who adores stuffed toys, plays a good game of fetch, and will love you with every ounce of his big, goofy heart… please come for me. I’m ready to be yours.

Love,
Tucker

If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org or 865-236-0830. To fill out an application, go to www.almosthometn.org. If you cannot get it to work, let us know and we will email it to you in a different format.

ADOPTION FEE:

The adoption fee for a cat is $85.

The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets.

The adoption fee for a dog is $200.

The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets.

Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced.

The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer.

We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need.

Additional adoption info

Unless otherwise noted, all Almost Home animals are healthy, spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and on heartworm preventitive (if dog,) and flea & tick preventitive.

If you would like to adopt a pet from Almost Home, start by completing our application, which is available online at www.almosthometn.org. Our adoption process includes reference checks, a home visit, a one week trial period, and a contract. Our goal is to find the best fit for our animals, and for their new families.

ADOPTION FEES:

The adoption fee for a CAT is $85 or two for $145. KITTENS are $100 or two for $185. The adoption fee for kittens includes the cost of spaying/neutering and their rabies shot when they are old enough (usually five months).

The adoption fee for a DOG is $150 or two for $265. PUPPIES are $200 or two for $365. The adoption fee for puppies includes the cost of spaying/neutering and their rabies shot when they are old enough (usually five months).

The adoption of more animals, or a different combination of animals, are welcome and fees will be reduced.

Micro-chipped cats and dogs are an additional $15.

NOTE: Some cats and dogs have a different fee than those listed above. It is noted on their posting. Mature pet adoption fees are lower to encourage people to adopt these wonderful animals who have a lot of love to give. The adoption fee for pure bred or desirable mixed breed dogs and cats is based on the average fee charged by area rescues and/or breed specific rescues.

ADOPTION FEES COVER LESS THAN 75% OF THE COST OF VETTING OUR ANIMALS. WE RELY ON DONATIONS AND GRANTS TO COVER THE REMAINDER.
