Meet Red! An 8 month old mix puppy who is ready for his forever home!! Red is a Labrador mix with a bit of Rhett Butler with Betty Davis eyes. His rakish good looks stop traffic and will steal your heart. He will give you a deep soulful look then BAM he’s off to play with his ball or rope for the pure joy of it. Red needs room to run, possibly an active sibling would be perfect and a humane who can keep up is mandatory. Red will need more training, he is an open book ready for the next chapter of his young life. Red would probably do well with older children as he is a big boy but still very much puppy, he sometimes forgets himself. The adoption fee for Red is $600.00, which includes on and off leash training. Red has been neutered, microchipped, dewormed, is on flea /tick and heartworm meds. We will review your application for preliminary approval before asking the foster parent to contact you to set up a time to meet the pet. You may also have concerns about how the animal will fit your home environment. When the foster parent contacts you, you will be able to discuss your concerns with someone who has first-hand experience with the pet.
After you meet the animal, you and the foster parent can decide if this is definitely the forever pet for you.

The Bedford Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1994 and dedicated to eliminating the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Bedford County, VA through education, spay/neuter programs, and companion animal adoptions. We are NOT the tax-funded Bedford County shelter on Falling Creek Road, although we do try to help the animals there whenever possible. Our adoptable pets live in volunteer foster homes where they receive the care and attention they deserve while awaiting a permanent home.
Our various programs for Bedford County and City of Bedford residents include::
•A low cost spay/neuter program for area pets
•The construction of an adoption animal center, Vernon D Lybolt Adoption Center, at 829 Ole Turnpike Road in Bedford.
•Find homes for abandoned and homeless animals through our adoption program.
•Help pet owners with unexpected expenses involving their pets, through our Emergency Fund program.
•Provide humane traps and spay/neuter subsidies for feral cats through our Forgotten Felines program.
•Humane Education program for area Scout troops and schools.
