My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Austin – A Husky-Terrier Mix with spirit, so handsome and a lot of love to give!

Austin means "great" or "magnificent" and that is exactly what he intends to be.  Austin is approaching his 1st birthday and has been in rescue and with his foster for going on 10 months!!!!!! I know we are just as shocked as you are.  His foster would like to share a little about him:

Austin absolutely adores kids, you can often find him cuddled up napping with the children in his foster home. He is so snuggly. Austin gets excited and also a little nervous on car rides but does very well and loves the adventure. Want to get that puppy energy out of Austin? Just take him outside and throw him a ball he will run and chase it over and over. Before you know it he's ready for a nap and so are you!  As much as Austin loves his people he also loves his canine friends too! Austin needs another dog in his furever home or even a pack of dogs and he's ok with being the submissive, loving, fun and goofy one. Austin is food motivated which is good because it can help with continuing his training because he'll do anything for a scooby snack! He also loves to just lay around and chew on a good ole bone.  Hide your shoes though because he has been known to try and steal them, but really he's just teaching us humans manners to pick up after ourselves. Austin is fully potty trained in his foster home.  He has even  trained his Foster mom that when he hits the door knob she has to get up to let him outside.  Austin is not a fan of crates but is working on learning they ae ok and can keep him safe and be his quiet own place. You will never have to talk to yourself again if you bring Austin home because he’s a vocal boy who loves to "talk" when he’s excited, and he uses that big personality to charm everyone he meets. Whether it’s playing with toys or cuddling up after a long walk, Austin brings joy and energy to every room. Please know with many rescue dogs it does take time especially for one who has been in foster for this long.  Austin will need a patient family to help him through the transition and understand that the anxiety will pass and he will become your best friend!

✅ Austin’s Highlights:

  • Fully potty trained
  • Dog-friendly (especially with playful, confident dogs) also been good with cats
  • Kid-friendly
  • Very vocal (classic Husky charm!)
  • Gentle and goofy—a fun, affectionate boy

More about this rescue

We are an all volunteer rescue organization devoted to saving dogs from shelters, puppy mills, abusive situations and abandonment in North Carolina. Our members foster, transport and help the rescue efforts with their individual skills, experience, knowledge and expertise, and most importantly, their love of dogs.

At Pawfect Match Rescue we believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance regardless of their breed or age.

We take a different approach to rescue. We don’t try to save the masses; we just save ONE at a time and make them the best dog they can be by the time they find their forever homes.

By that we mean that we take them into our homes where they live amongst us and our pets and are treated as one of the family, not as a foster dog. We accomplish this by limiting our fosters to one or two per household.

Besides the basics of crate training and house training, we teach them basic obedience, we groom them, feed them a high quality dog food, and last but not least, we shower them with LOVE and attention that hopefully teaches them to trust again and realize that life really IS good..

We’ll never be able to save them all, no matter how many we try to pull and foster. So we believe that the one at a time approach with the extra TLC allows us to really KNOW the dogs and be able to match them more precisely with their new families.

This ends up being a win- win situation for all involved.

Pawfect Match is all volunteer and relies solely on adoption donation fees and public support. Most times our adoption donations do not cover our medical expenses.
