My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on March 18, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
This adorable goofball is Barnie! With his legendary zoomies, love of plush toys and playful personality, he's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and a lot of love to your home. Before entering our care, Barnie hadn't had much experience walking on a leash, but he's been making excellent progress with our trainers. With their help, he's learning how to walk politely on a leash and stay calm when he's feeling really excited. Barnie is super smart and a huge fan of enrichment! He loves engaging his brain with puzzle toys, chews, licki mats and more. Barnie would thrive best in a home without cats or young kids, and with a family who can continue his positive reinforcement training and give him the patience and love he so deserves. If that sounds like you, Barnie wants to meet you!

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
