My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Obok

1 year old | Spayed Female | Jindo Mix | 18kg | 48cm | White

Obok was once a stray, wandering the neighborhood until kind locals started feeding her. With patience and consistent socialization training over the past few months, she approaches for gentle touches when food is offered and is learning to trust people more every day.

‍‍ With People

Obok’s still a little reserved with humans and can be shy at first, but she takes treats & accepts gentle pets. She will wag her tail and slowly approach people who offer snacks, and while she may avoid sudden touches at first, once someone pets her, she accepts affection well. Even with strangers, she remains calm—she has even bathed comfortably with new people. Currently, she is training with a male trainer and shows no fear of men. She can also be safely lifted by holding her under her belly.

With Other Dogs

Obok is very sociable and enjoys the company of other dogs, whether they’re familiar or new. She greets big dogs, small dogs, and dogs her size with friendliness. She especially loves strong, confident large males and plays well with high-energy playmates. Obok is easygoing and does not react negatively even if another dog challenges her. She thrives around other dogs, so she would do best in a home with a canine companion.

With Cats

On walks, Obok notices cats with curiosity but follows her handler’s lead without issue. Further testing with cats can be arranged.

Energy Level

She has a moderate energy level—she enjoys outdoor activities but also knows how to settle down afterward. When tired, she goes to her spot and falls asleep peacefully.

Walks

Obok has made great progress with leash training. She does not pull and follows her handler well. In unfamiliar places, she may walk slowly, but she never bolts or panics.

Other Behavior

• No food guarding with people or dogs

• Comfortable being left alone, no separation anxiety

• Rarely barks (only occasionally joins in if another dog barks at strangers)

• Calm in a kennel

• Mild car sickness if she rides right after eating

• Fully house-trained outdoors

Obok is a gentle, friendly soul who has overcome her past as a stray and is ready for a loving forever home. She will do best in a household with another friendly dog to help her feel secure and continue to thrive.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
