When Finch (A561552) first came to us, he was terrified of everything. This shy one-year-old pittie mix had clearly seen very little kindness in his life. At the shelter he shut down completely, hiding away and doing his best to disappear. He wasn’t just overlooked, he was invisible, too scared to show anyone the sweet dog inside. Thankfully, Finch got the chance he desperately needed: a foster home. And what a difference it has made. Little by little, his walls have started to come down. With patient care and the steady presence of his foster family, Finch is discovering that the world is not so scary after all. Now, instead of cowering, Finch plays with toys, follows his nose to tasty snacks (treats are still the key to his heart!), and even joins in with doggy playmates. He is learning house manners, showing progress with being housebroken, and every day he grows a little braver.
Finch still has a journey ahead of him, and he will need a patient, understanding family willing to let him go at his own pace. In return, you will get to watch the most rewarding transformation, a gentle, loyal pup blossoming into the joyful dog he was always meant to be.

Finch is a one-year-old pit mix who has made incredible progress since arriving at the shelter. When he first came in, he was a very scared and shut-down boy who wasn’t sure if people could be trusted. With time, patience, and the care of his foster home, Finch has slowly started to blossom into the happy, playful young dog he was meant to be.
He currently weighs around 35 pounds, making him a smaller-sized pit mix — the perfect “little bitty pittie!” Finch is treat-motivated, very smart, and eager to please. He’s also partially housebroken and learning quickly with consistency and routine.

If you are interested in adopting an animal: 1) Write down the Animal ID # . 2) Make sure to mention Animal ID # when visiting or calling. 3) Remember all adoptions stop 30 minutes prior to closing time. 3) You will not be allowed to place a hold on the animal. 4) It cannot be shipped to you. 5) Before adopting it, you can spend time with the animal outside or in a "meet and greet" room. Please ask for assistance. 6) We take cash, checks, debit cards, VISA and Mastercard as a method of payment. **IMPORTANT: Huntsville Animal Services cannot guarantee that any animal will still be available for adoption as we do not hold animals for anyone under any circumstances. Animals are adopted on a first come, first serve basis. You may want to call and ask if one is still available prior to visiting the shelter. When you adopt a pet, it will stay at the shelter and be taken to the veterinarian of your choice where it will be spayed or neutered before going to its new home. If it is already spayed or neutered, it can go home with you upon adoption. My adoption cost is very affordable and includes my adoption fee, spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, license (if you live within Huntsville city limits), and microchip.
