My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOOKING FOR A NICE HOSPICE HOME:  Approx. 13 years  old / Approx. 13 lbs.

Hi, my name is Wilfred!  Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control, and I am sure happy about that.  I needed bloodwork and a good dental cleaning when I arrived and I've had those now, thanks to a generous grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization!  Unfortunately, my teeth had been so neglected that they all had to be pulled.  I also needed some additional medical care – see medical below.  I’m grateful for the good care that I’m getting and the love from my wonderful foster family while I wait for my hospice family to find me!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I get along just fine with the dogs in my foster home and I follow their cues, too.  I’m not looking for a playmate, but a gentle companion would be fine with me, so let’s meet!  I also met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression.  / I get along fine with the very dog friendly kitties in my foster home, too.  Of course, all kitties are different, so use careful introductions. / I haven’t met kids yet, so if you have kids that are old enough to be very gentle with me, let’s meet and no toddlers that may fall on me or very young children.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I was pretty confused and unsettled when I first found myself at animal control and later at the Mostly Mutts shelter. I didn’t really understand what had happened, but even though I was unsure, I was never unkind — just a little lost. At the shelter, I had a hard time relaxing and would pace a lot. Now that I’m in a foster home, life feels so much better! I do love following my foster around the house, and I’m beginning to relax in a soft, cozy dog bed. I think I’d be happiest with a stay-at-home or work-from-home family member who wouldn’t mind having me as their loyal little sidekick. I’m described as a very easy dog to foster who is sweet, quiet, calm and gentle. I was a ‘perfect gentleman’ for my shelter bath, too — even offering my paws for the rinsing phase.  I’m not playful or a snuggler, but I am a sweetie!  As I’m following my foster around, I’ve been a tripping hazard on a few occasions, so it’s best that I don’t live with anyone who may have mobility issues.  / My energy level is 3-5 and I do enjoy my morning walks with the other dogs and don’t want to be left behind.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I don’t really know any commands, and since I’m a senior fellow, I think we can skip the training and just enjoy each other’s company! / I do well in a gated area in my foster home for bedtime. / Since I’m a bit older, I do need to go out to potty a bit more than the young dogs. In my foster home, I’ll whine when I need to go, so know that that’s my cue.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love being with my family and the other pets in my foster home and I’ve loved everyone I’ve met so far.  I don’t ask for much – just a nice safe home with a wonderful family where I’ll know I’m loved and included. / I don’t like being left behind when it’s time for a walk outside and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, good care and attention.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I have a grade 4/5 heart murmur, so I eat a low salt soft diet and am on 2 heart medications: Enalapril twice a day, and Vetmedin once a day.  I also take an over-the-counter joint supplement called Cosequin daily and a little fish oil for my skin.  I had a boo boo on my hind end that has been tended to and is healing.  As mentioned above, I had to have all my teeth pulled. I seem to be a bit hard of hearing and have some vision loss – both likely just due to my age, but I don’t let it get me down.

I am looking for a loving family to give me a wonderful home!  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
