My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌟 Meet Kevin — The Adventure Buddy Who Just Needs His Break 🌟
If you’ve been waiting for a dog who’s athletic, affectionate, and absolutely full of heart, let us introduce you to Kevin — a 2–3-year-old, 45-pound tan-and-white mixed-breed cutie (think Black Mouth Cur meets Shepherd… with a dash of “professional snuggler”).
Kevin is one of those dogs who is so much more than what you see in the kennel. The shelter environment is stressful for him, and he’s desperate for someone to give him the chance he deserves. But the second he steps outside? His whole world changes.
🐾 Why Kevin Might Be Your Perfect Match:
• Athletic & adventure-ready: With his young, athletic build, this boy is made for outings. After a few initial “umm… we’re walking, right?” moments, he finds his rhythm — and he could absolutely blossom into a great jogging buddy.
• Treat-motivated genius: Kevin LOVES snacks and will happily work for food. If you want a dog who’s fun and rewarding to train… this is your guy.
• Car enthusiast: Walk past a parked car and he’ll put his paws up like, “Shotgun? I’m ready. Let’s go anywhere but here.”
• Dog-friendly: He really wants to play! Kevin would enjoy another dog who can match his enthusiastic play style. (Meet & greets always required.)
• Cat-friendly potential: He passed his initial cat test — what a star!
• Affectionate & snuggly: Behind the stress and nerves is an incredibly sweet boy who leans into love and melts for affection.
🏡 What Kevin Needs:
A patient adopter who sees the “real Kevin” — the goofy, active, loving dog who just wants a safe place to land. A securely fenced yard would be ideal to help him feel comfortable and protected as he settles in. With time, routine, and kindness, this boy is going to shine.
Kevin is ready for someone to take a chance on him — someone who sees the potential, the goodness, and the eager little soul waiting behind those kennel bars.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion to explore life with, Kevin is waiting for you. ❤️🐾

More about this shelter

The City of Hopewell Animal Shelter is run by the Animal Control Officers. We fall under the Hopewell Police Department and train accordingly to serve the animals and the public of Hopewell. Our shelter is currently a small scale shelter with 28 dog kennels and 14 cat cages.

Our shelter is often full. We work hard to find our animals that are not claimed by an owner a new home or an approved rescue.

Most of our animals at our facility are animals that were found running loose that no one came to look for. We do often get animals in from owner surrenders where the previous owners can no longer care for them. At times we also seize animals and they will eventually need forever homes or rescue.

Come on down to the City of Hopewell and meet the wonderful Animal Control Officers and the Shelter staff that care for the animals on a daily basis.
