Meet Dao

Breed: Jindo Mix

Age: 2 years

Sex: Spayed Female

Color: Cream

Weight: 16kg

Height: 43cm (at shoulder)

Rescue Story

Dao is a brave mama who raised her 8 puppies before finding herself in a city shelter. Thanks to her resilience and gentle spirit, she is now ready for her very own forever family.

Personality & Temperament

Dao is a calm, gentle, and thoughtful companion. She may be shy at first, but with a kind hand and a few treats, she warms up. Once she trusts you, she shows her love with tail wags, affection, and quiet companionship.

With People: Dao prefers a calm approach rather than sudden movements. She is not a dog who enjoys being scooped up, but she allows it if necessary. She is most comfortable when you sit beside her and gently stroke her—this is when she shows her sweetest side. With children under 13, she may feel nervous around sudden noises or fast movements, so a quieter home is ideal.

With Other Dogs: Dao politely greets other dogs but isn’t the playful wrestling type. She prefers calm canine friends and can feel uncomfortable around high-energy dogs.

With Cats & Small Animals: On walks, Dao may curiously watch cats but easily follows her handler’s lead without chasing. She even lived peacefully in the same space as a parrot, showing her ability to coexist with other animals.

At Home: Dao is independent yet affectionate—she enjoys resting quietly but will often come over to sit or lie near you. She is very quiet (rarely barks) and is comfortable with indoor rest and outdoor potty routines.

Training & Skills

Dao is a fast learner with impressive training progress:

• Knows sit, down, paw, nose touch, and chin rest (placing her chin on a hand sign).

• Learns new commands within just 2–3 days when motivated by treats.

• Walks beautifully on leash without pulling, matching her handler’s pace.

• Responds well to gentle guidance and consistent positive reinforcement.

Exercise & Activities

Dao enjoys daily walks and outdoor time. She:

• Loves sniffing around and rolling on artificial grass.

• Chooses calm walks over running on hot days but enjoys short playful runs in cooler weather.

• Can get startled by fast-moving objects (like a swinging racket), but she calms quickly when reassured.

• Loves soft fabric nosework mats and enjoys playing with plush toys or chasing gently indoors.

Other Notes

Car rides: Still learning—she prefers the floor space of the back seat and is getting more comfortable.

Bathing/Grooming: Not her favorite, but she tolerates baths calmly. She accepts brushing while lying on her side. Clippers or scissors for grooming are still new to her, but she is never aggressive.

Kennel/Crate: Whines when confined, so she is better suited for a family where she won’t be kenneled often.

Potty habits: Mostly outdoor potty trained.

Ideal Home for Dao

Dao would thrive with an understanding, patient family who values her gentle nature and respects her independent spirit. She blossoms with time, showing her loving and loyal side once she feels safe. She is best suited to:

• A calm household (without very young children).

• A family who enjoys daily walks, calm playtime, and quiet companionship.

• A home where she will be treated with patience, kindness, and consistency.

Dao isn’t the type to rush into your arms—but she will walk quietly by your side, rest near you, and give you her trust and love at her own pace. With her intelligence, calm nature, and gentle soul, Dao is sure to become a faithful and heartwarming companion.

Dao is ready to bring quiet joy and steady companionship to her forever home. Will you be the one to give this sweet mama the love she deserves?

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
