Meet The Gambler! At just 1–2 years old, The Gambler is learning to play the hand he has been dealt. He came to us as a stray in heartbreaking condition, petrified, infested with fleas, and missing patches of hair. Do not let his rough start fool you. Once he realizes you are safe, this boy goes all in, warming up quickly and dealing out kisses galore.
The Gambler has made remarkable progress. In the beginning he would bolt out the door each morning in fear, and every night we had to lure him into his kennel with treats and goodies. Now he happily greets us in the morning with a wagging tail and kisses, eager to start the day.
He seems to be housebroken, as he only goes potty in his outdoor kennel. He does not seem to mind other dogs, though right now he is more focused on finding his footing and learning the rules of the game in a new environment. What he needs most is a patient home willing to give him time to decompress and show him the jackpot of love and safety he has been missing.
We always remind adopters of the 3-3-3 rule: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn routines, and 3 months to fully feel at home. With time, patience, and kindness, The Gambler is sure to be a winning bet.
If you are ready to take a chance on love, this sweet boy is waiting to go all in with you.An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $200.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice. Cats and kittens are a donation of choice.
