BIO Update (12/8/2025): Buster is the epitome of a “Velcro” dog. He loves his person and wants to be near and participate in all of his human’s activities. There are two sides to this handsome gentleman’s personality. He is a sweet, sweet boy, but there are times when he exhibits some behavioral issues - nothing very serious - that we are working through. In the past, Buster had been allowed to establish his own rules which his subjects must obey. When Buster’s little Napolean personality appears, he needs a leader who is firm and fair to love and guide him in understanding his boundaries within the family. Buster is making progress in this area. He is well worth the effort.

BIO: After 9 years with his adoptive family, Buster came back to us because he didn't like the grandchildren visiting the home. The problem was that Buster thought he ran the house. He is leery of strangers due to a lack of socialization. With that being said, he’s a great dog and loves being with people and is fine with other dogs. Whoever adopts Buster must be the 'alpha' and let him know that he cannot run the show. When he understands that, he is a wonderful dog—happy and housebroken. He would do better with someone who is looking for a frosty face and is home most of the time. When you are home, he will follow you from room to room, but if you must leave, then he will bark. Are you willing to give him a chance at getting the last home of his life? Do not let his one behavior scare you off; it can be corrected, but you must be the alpha.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
