My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOOKING FOR A GOOD LEADER:  Approx. 1 year old / Approx. 61 lbs.

Hi, my name is Doc! I originally came to Mostly Mutts from animal control, and was adopted for a while, but it turned out not to be the right fit so I’m back with Mostly Mutts looking for the right home!  I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off-site having fun and learning a lot!  Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I like playing with the other dogs I’ve met in the prison/foster training program, and when I’m finished playing, I’ll just lie down.  In my former home, I went to doggie daycare at times, so if you have a dog that would like a friend, let’s meet! / I got along with the cat in my former home though I did chase at times, but they reported it was not aggressively. All cats are different, so I’m not sure how I would be with another cat. / I haven’t met children recently so if you have kids 15+ and older, let’s meet and kids should not walk me.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m a nice dog who is looking for a nice, dog-savvy family to give me good leadership and clear rules.  I’m a smart pup with working-breed traits, so I’ll thrive with plenty of mental stimulation and things to keep my brain busy.  I have a bit of neck sensitivity, so it’s best not to grab my collar suddenly.  There were 2 minor bites in the past, but I always give clear warning signs first.  My trainer will be glad to explain this and share tips to help set us up for success.  I’m affectionate with most people, a little selective with others, and sometimes get mouthy when I play.  With the right guidance, I’ll be a loyal, loving companion who just needs someone to believe in me. So, if you’re looking for a dog to be active with and you enjoy training as well as being a good leader to your dog, we could be a great fit!  / My energy level is 3-5 in the prison/foster training program, so a nice 30-minute walk when out to potty seems to be what I need.  But remember I do also want mental stimulation such as puzzle toys and games.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program, so I've mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' and 'place' commands.  I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash walking manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping.  I really enjoy my training, and I’ve recently started training to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, which is a 10-skill program that teaches dogs good manners at home and in the community.  I’m excited to keep learning and showing off my best manners as I work toward this goal!  I have also been to 2 additional Mostly Mutts after adoption training classes. / My crate manners are good in the prison/foster training program and were also good in my former home. / My potty manners are good in the prison/foster training program and were also reported as good in my former home.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like spending time with people, playing puzzle games and mental stimulation with toys and training together.  I’m sure we’ll find lots of other things we’ll like doing together, too! / As mentioned above, I’ve struggled with collar reactivity and there have been a select few people I didn’t care for. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  Not long after my initial rescue as a puppy, it was discovered that I was born with Legg-Perthes Disease and needed double FHO surgery. Thanks to the great care I received, I had my surgery, completed my recovery and physical therapy, and am doing really well!  I am taking an over-the-counter joint supplement called Cosequin to keep my joints feeling their best.

I am looking for a wonderful and loving home with a great family!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Our adoption counselors are happy to help make a great match for you and your family!

Adoption Info:
Please submit an application through our website at www.mostlymutts.org if you are interested in one of our adoptable pets. We are receiving a large volume of applications and processing may take a little bit longer than normal. Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
