Any Medical or Special needs: She is heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment at our local vet! This treatment has a very high success rate, and Maze is expected to make a full recovery! Heartworms are not contagious to people, or other animals and treatment is full covered by the rescue!
Temperament with:
Dogs: Good
Cats: Unknown
Children list specific ages: She is GREAT with kiddos and lives with kids ages 9 & 12! Kiddos 8 and up would be best because of her puppy play style!
Strangers: Great!
Training Needs:
Crate Trained: Yes
Potty Trained: Yes
Maze is a PETITE 2-year-old Black Lab mix weighing in at just 41 pounds! In person, she looks like a mini-Labrador! Her foster family says her adorable size and gentle spirit make her the PERFECT fit for any family! This sweet girl loves life and finds joy in every little thing! When she gets excited (especially around food), she makes the cutest little monkey-like grunts that never fail to make her foster mom laugh! Maze absolutely ADORES kiddos and currently lives with a 9- and 12-year-old she loves to snuggle with! Since she still has puppy playfulness and can get a bit mouthy during play time, a home with children around 8 years or older would be best! This social girl loves going for walks and does great on a leash! She’s friendly with other dogs and even got her furry foster brother to play tug-of-war with her! Though she comes in a small package, Maze doesn't take well to other aggressive or reactive dogs and is not afraid to stand up for herself (she's never hurt another dog, just will respond accordingly with some gentle corrective snips which is fair- who wouldn't stand up for themselves?) Regardless of that, Maze has no food, toy, or water aggression towards people or other dogs and would be a great option for someone with another fur Baby in the home!
Speaking of other fur babies, Maze also shares her home with two birds — she finds them interesting but mostly leaves them alone! While at home, Maze is a DREAM! She goes into her crate easily when her foster family isn’t home and sleeps soundly in her dog bed at night! She’s fully potty trained and eager to please — learning tricks quickly (she already knows sit and target)! Additionally, Maze travels wonderfully in the car and has enjoyed road trips with her foster family and their other dog! She’s a quiet girl who only barks if another dog starts it, isn’t destructive, and doesn’t counter surf! Overall, Maze is a joyful, affectionate, and loyal companion who’s ready to bring endless love (and a few funny grunts) into her forever home!

More about this rescue
MISSION
Our mission is to be a voice and a home for dogs and cats who do not have one. To provide love, care, and shelter for those who have never had it or have lost it. We believe all animals are deserving. We will rescue, protect, vet, and provide hope as we search for loving forever homes for all animals that come into our care.
PURPOSE
Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue, based in Lemont, IL, is dedicated to rescuing, vetting, and rehoming animals from shelters and other abandoned situations. Operated by dedicated volunteers and supported by foster families and sponsors, our goal is to provide the necessary veterinary care, grooming, and love while finding them forever homes.
GOALS
Successfully rescue and rehome dogs and cats from kill shelters and other abandoned situations.
Spay/neuter all animals that come into our care.
Grow a foster and volunteer network.
Support and educate the community of the importance of spay and neuter.
Keep pets with their families by providing assistance with pet food, training, vetting, or any other pet related issue, in order to keep them together and out of the shelter.
Educate adults and children to build awareness, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of spay and neuter for all animals.
Advocate for stronger laws regarding animal welfare, cruelty, and puppy mills/pet stores.
Help decrease the homeless/abandoned animal population to in turn reduce euthanasia rates at shelters and animal control organizations.
PHILOSOPHY
Successful RWAR adoptions depend on strong relationships with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and trainers. Through these relationships we will be able to rescue hundreds of animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care and carefully-matched forever homes.
SUPPORT
Best Friend’s Animal Society NO-KILL 2025 Goal
Reaching no-kill by 2025 means that every shelter in our country is getting the community support it needs to save every dog and cat who can be saved. *When a shelter is saving at least 90% of dogs and cats entering that shelter, it is designated as no-kill.*
