Since I'm a long stay pup, my adoption fee has been reduced! Visit me today to find out my favorite treats and how you can take me home!
Zam is an enthusiastic and intelligent dog enrolled in our Shelter Scholars program, where he's learning to stay grounded during walks by working on on-leash reactivity. With patience and practice, he's beginning to replace reactive behaviors with calm focus and improved leash manners, turning daily outings into opportunities for growth.
Meet Zam! Owner surrender with prior ACC history; his family could no longer provide the time and housing he needs. In care, he's shown both a sweet, people-focused side and some stress in busy kennel areas.
My Ideal Home Experienced, adult-only adopters who can offer structure, a calm routine, and positive-reinforcement training. Decompression time, enrichment (sniff walks, food puzzles, long-lasting chews), and clear guidance will help him feel safe and settle in.
Good with Kids? Recommended no children under 13 due to fearfulness and sensitivity to handling.
Good with Other Pets? Recommended single-pet home. In shelter play/near-dog settings he's shown tension, barking, and fixating; we also recommend no dog parks.
Leash Manners Leashes easily and can walk with light to moderate tension, but may pull hard and vocalize when he sees other dogs. Use distance, "look at me/let's go" games, and a front-clip harness to support success. Redirect to treats or a sniff break before he escalates.
Overall Health Veterinary exam lists him as apparently healthy; heartworm tests have been negative. He is neutered and up to date on core vaccines. A dental cleaning (COHAT) is recommended at adoption.
Behavior Determination & Other Level 3. Recommendations: adult-only home; single pet; no dog parks. Potential challenges noted: fearful in new situations, on-leash reactivity/barrier frustration, occasional leash mouthing under stress. Training focus: slow, choice-based introductions, reward check-ins, and consistent management around other dogs.
Fun Facts • Housetrained • Knows sit, stay, shake/paw • Food-motivated and enjoys snuffle mats/puzzles • Loves car rides and playing with balls
Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: White Weight: 59 Age: 7yrs 8mths 3wks
