This handsome young German Shepherd mix is still discovering that the world can be a wonderful place. While Gus may be independent by nature, he absolutely thrives with canine companionship. He's searching for a home with a confident, well-adjusted dog who can be his mentor and show him the ropes. Watching him play with his favorite toys and light up for tasty treats gives us glimpses of the joyful pup waiting to emerge.

Gus is still mastering potty training and basic commands, so he'll need patient adopters committed to helping him succeed. With the right pack and gentle guidance, this sweet boy has incredible potential to become an amazing companion. If you have a dog-savvy household and the patience to teach this boy what he needs to know, Gus could be your perfect match.

We process your application in the order received. We'll contact you through call or email.

3.
Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

Visit the facility via scheduled appt. and meet the the dog. If all seems like a good fit, the dog can go home on this day!

The application will come back up again during the final meet n greet, since check out and microchips rely on the same system where the applications are put in.

More about this rescue

Highland Lakes Canine Rescue was founded in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by a group of folks who wanted to rescue homeless dogs from the Central Texas region and care for their health, rehabilitation and then to ultimately find these dogs a forever home uniting them with a newly adopted family. Initially HLCR started out as a foster only organization but over the 17 years has grown into it's own location with a kennel facility, outdoor pens, walking trails and staff and resident caretaker. An active and passionate group of staff and volunteers works tirelessly supporting HLCR and its mission.
