My story

Ready for a Co-Pilot? Meet Jaxi!

If you're looking for a loyal companion to join you on all of life's adventures, Jaxi is your guy. The true definition of "man's best friend," he is a bundle of pure love who wants nothing more than to be your buddy. From farmers markets to crowded parks, Jaxi is happy and comfortable as long as he's with his people. His ideal day ends with him snuggled up on the couch, snoring like he pays the rent. He's one of the most precious, gentle, and lovable dogs you will ever meet.

A Work in Progress with a Heart of Gold:

Jaxi is a smart boy who is eager to please and learns quickly. He's already mastered "sit" and is working hard on learning "off" for the furniture and "wait" for his leash and meals. While he's still a bit of a blank slate when it comes to other commands and house rules (like counters are not for surfing!), he is a willing student who thrives on positive guidance. He just needs a patient teacher to show him the ropes. With a little consistency, he'll be the best-behaved boy in no time!

Ideal Home:

Jaxi would be happiest with a constant companion, whether it's a calm, confident doggy sibling to show him the way or a person who is home most of the day. He loves long walks and would have a blast playing in a securely fenced yard where he can explore safely. He's looking for an adopter who understands he needs help building his confidence and is committed to continuing his training with simple, consistent rules.

Jaxi’s heart is big, his loyalty runs deep, and his capacity for love is endless. The person who chooses him won't just be getting a pet—they'll be gaining a best friend for life.

This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. MEET AND GREETS

We primarily rely on meet & greets for potential adopters. Approved adopters may meet adoptable animals at the home of the animal's foster, or possibly in the adopter's own home.

More about this rescue

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized daily. We provide foster homes where they can get the love and attention needed before finding their forever homes. Our organization provides pet adoption services in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and parts of Southern Pennsylvania. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded and could not save these dogs and fulfill their dreams of being united with their forever families, without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors and volunteers. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own.
