My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Current Location: Strasburg, VA

Autumn is thoughtful, cautious, and quietly observant. Like his sister Harvest, he will come in for chin and face scratches and allows gentle petting on his sides and back once he feels secure. He moves easily between the kennel and fenced yard to potty and play and enjoys spending time with his littermates. He shows curiosity about people but still struggles with direct approach.

If you try to walk straight up to Autumn, he will circle away inside the pen, choosing distance over confrontation. He has not started leash training yet and will need a slow, confidence building introduction when the time is right. His mange around the eyes has cleared, and he is physically doing well.

Autumn will make the best progress once separated from his litter. He feeds off their nervous energy, and a quieter home environment will help him continue to grow. A fully fenced yard is required, and a confident dog in the home would be a huge benefit. Autumn needs a calm household with predictable routines and people who understand that trust is earned, not rushed.

MEET AND GREETS

We primarily rely on meet & greets for potential adopters. Approved adopters may meet adoptable animals at the home of the animal's foster, or possibly in the adopter's own home.

More about this rescue

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized daily. We provide foster homes where they can get the love and attention needed before finding their forever homes. Our organization provides pet adoption services in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and parts of Southern Pennsylvania. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded and could not save these dogs and fulfill their dreams of being united with their forever families, without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors and volunteers. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own.
