My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Gyeoul (means Winter in Korean)

Age: 3 years old

Gender: Neutered Male

Breed: Sapsali (Korean native breed)

Height: 54 cm (to shoulder)

Rescue Story

Gyeoul was rescued after his previous owner sadly passed away. He was taken to a local shelter and later brought to safety through our rescue.

Personality

Gyeoul is a calm, gentle boy who loves people—both men and women alike. He’s not the type to jump on strangers or demand attention right away, but he’s very comfortable being petted and handled even by people he just met. Once he gets to know you, he’ll show his affection with soft tail wags, happy eyes, and the cutest little “please pet me” wiggles. He’s truly a sweetheart who just wants love and connection.

He allows being hugged and lifted easily, and when he feels secure, he even rolls over to show his belly. Although he hasn’t met children under 13, he’s expected to do well with gentle introductions.

Socialization with Dogs

When meeting new dogs, Gyeoul is polite and calm—he greets them nicely but doesn’t always initiate play. He especially enjoys the company of smaller or gentle dogs, and tends to avoid conflict if another dog acts aggressively. High-energy dogs can make him a bit uneasy, but he’s never reactive.

Cats & Small Animals

He gets curious when he sees cats during walks and may try to approach them, but with gentle redirection he quickly follows his handler’s lead. He also notices birds but never pulls or lunges.

Walking & Energy Level

He walks beautifully on a leash, matching his handler’s pace and stopping if the leash gets tight. He enjoys outdoor activities but is calm and quiet at home after exercise. Gyeoul rarely barks, stays relaxed in a kennel, and is used to doing his business outside.

Training & Temperament

Gyeoul is intelligent and eager to please—he understands simple Korean commands like “ (come here)” and “ (sit),” especially when treats are involved! His love of food makes training easy and fun. Even during grooming or brushing out tangled fur, he stays still and patient.

Overall, Gyeoul is a peaceful, affectionate companion who brings a warm and steady presence to any home. He’ll be a perfect match for someone looking for a loyal, well-mannered, and loving best friend.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
