My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Spots!!!

Meet Spots, a very active young (3 yrs) female red merle Australian Shepherd with gorgeous blue
eyes. Spots was an owner surrender. Her previous owner’s health and age made it almost
impossible to be cared for properly.

Spots is a larger Aussie, weighing in at 55-60 lbs. She is not overweight at all, just a muscular young girl that is always on the go. Spots loves going on walks,
she does pull a bit but would respond very well to a little bit of leash training. She knows her basic commands but is a bit of a stubborn girl when it comes to things she wants. Her biggest joy in life seems to be playing with her best pal Bubbah, an 80lb Pit Bull.

The play is intense and somewhat rough, but both love it and they know the limits. Spots is great with other dogs, and
gravitates to the larger dogs. Spots will generally not engage in play with dogs that are too small to handle the physical nature of her play.

She loves her food and needs to be watched aroundother dogs eating as she will simply take it away as if it was hers to begin with.

Spots has picked her number one person in the household – in this case, her foster dad and “Food Guy”. Spots doesn’t appear to be a flight risk. She knows her home and has shown no inclinationto dig or climb out. She is great off leash with great recall. Spots has little or no prey drive as ehe
never gives the bunnies, lizards, birds or any other wildlife that comes on the property a second look. Cats are an unknown, but with careful introduction, may be acceptable.

Children are also an unknown, she seems to love everyone but, due to her activity level and intensity , children
under 6 may not be a good fit.

Spots will need a playmate near her size to help keep her busy. An active family that loves to be outdoors would be perfect for her. Keep Spots active and stimulate her brain with new tricks to learn and she will be your best buddy forever. She is not fearful of strangers and is great company
at any outing. Her good looks and vibrant personality will make you the envy of any dog friendly location.

She is currently fostered in Tucson, AZ.

If you think Spors is the pup for you,  please submit our adoption application.

More about this rescue

Nancy Pearlman-Gonzalez, Founder and CEO, created Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF), a non-profit organization to promote the education, rescue, fostering and adoption of the Australian Shepherd breed of dog.
In July 2012, Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF) initiated as a page on Facebook. Hoping to have 1,000 members at the end one year, ASF quickly grew into a network of more than 58,000 dedicated individuals striving to provide aid and refuge to Aussies all over the country.
From these phenomena, the website www.australianshepherdsfurever.org was developed to educate the public on this intelligent and beautiful breed, and provide resources to those seeking help or willing to contribute to the Adopt, Save and Foster (ASF) philosophy. ASF filed for non- profit status in July 2013 and obtained its status in July 2014 and through proactive networking, partnerships, training/rehabilitation and fundraising, ASF has saved the lives of countless dogs to include those with Parvo, Mange, Tick Disease, Cancer, Pneumonia, broken limbs and some of the most extreme cases of abuse that one could imagine. ASF focuses on the Aussies that most would turn their backs on. ASF is in its 5th year and over 1,910 Australian Shepherds have been rescued from high kills shelters, abusive owners and other high-risk situations.
We, as humans, have a responsibility to uphold, shelter and care for those beings that are less fortunate, that are simply cast away. Thanks to proactive individuals who work collectively, Aussies nationwide are being given a chance at a better life through Australian Shepherds Volunteers are an integral component of ASF for the maintenance of the website, screening potential fosters and adopters, providing training, fundraising, data base management, networking and transporting of recued Aussies. All Volunteers; Adopters, Fosters, Trainers and Transporters etc. are carefully screened and vetted to assure the safe and vital placement of these dogs into furever homes. We currently have over 170 foster families and over 160 dogs in foster care nationwide. We have professional trainers to work with our dogs with severe behavioral issues. We also have a team of Rescue Coordinators, Medical Advisors, Fundraisers, Regional Reps, Application Processors, Data Base Managers, Social Media Managers, Microchip and ID tag Registrars and Ground and Air Transport Coordinators that work together to save these beautiful dogs.
Furever (ASF).
