My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Linda!

She’s a complicated little big dog with a complicated history with us. We have known her for a while and assisted her owners with getting her spayed when she almost died from a uterine infection, but now it became clear they weren’t able to care for her longterm. She came to us sick with some gi issues and morbidly obese at a whopping 33lbs! The photos don’t do justice to just how wide she was 🐳. She would turn blue and struggle to breathe just getting to the yard to go to the bathroom and back in. She was discovered to be hypothyroid which was a big part of the issue, and with a strict diet and her magic daily thyroid pills the pounds are melting off now and she’s feeling much better already.

She’s just as complicated personality wise- definitely a chihuahua attitude and doesn’t like strangers, being picked up, or anyone sticking their hands in her face. She has to come to you for attention on her terms though she’s warmed up and follows us around wagging her tail now. But she’s not a touchy-feely cuddly, overly affectionate dog. She’s fine with other dogs and chill hanging with a pack of little ones, definitely better dog skills than people skills just like us. She’s 9 years old and pretty healthy overall now besides the weight and the thyroid, and she should have a long life ahead of her as long as she continues to keep the weight off. She’s looking for an adult home that will just let her be herself and doesn’t mind some snark and being told off sometimes.

Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Linda in Northern NJ

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

We request that adopters fill out a pre-adoption application either on our website. This helps us make sure the animal's personality is a good match for your household. Adopters sign a contract at the time of adoption, and the animal must come back to us if they do not work out in the home.
