Here's what the humans have to say about me:
NOTE: DONNA IS IN A FOSTER HOME IN BRENTWOOD (NORTHERN CALIFORNIA). GSRSV HAS NOT MET DONNA. WE ARE LISTING HER ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVE HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO.
"Donna" is a super-cute, approx 65-lb, 3-yo spayed female GSD mix who is loving, energetic, intelligent and playful. Donna is healthy, microchipped and up-to-date on core vaccinations. It's quite possible that Donna's somewhat brindled coat is from Dutch Shepherd DNA.
Donna adores her people, gives gentle kisses, and will happily rest her head in your lap. She is good with strangers coming into the house. She is also good with children, having showed her gentle side with kids 7-12 yrs old. She has not exhibited any resource guarding.
Donna has not been given much opportunity to interact with other dogs because she appears to be aggressive towards them. However, recently Donna was able to go nose-to-nose with two other dogs through a chain-link fence after a person worked with her for about an hour. So, Donna could well do OK w/ another dog with additional exposure and an experienced handler.
Donna has not been observed around cats since she was rescued, but it’s likely that she would not do well with them.
Donna is housetrained and behaves fine in a crate. She walks well on a leash without distractions and is a good jogging partner. She is food-motivated and a quick learner. Loud noises can make her skittish, so a calm, supportive environment is best.
Donna has exhibited reactive behavior towards other dogs, people, and bicycles when on leash. However, with training she has made improvement in these areas. She needs someone patient, consistent, and willing to continue her training.
Donna loves to go for car rides and is always ready for an adventure away from home. She loves toys and will keep you smiling with her goofy, fun-loving spirit.
A group of volunteers rescued Donna from the Contra Costa County animal shelter in Martinez back in 2024. A woman named Charisse offered to foster Donna while she recovered from her spay, never intending to keep her this long. Now, Charisse needs to find Donna a new home as she is moving, possibly as soon as December.
Donna is located in Brentwood (Contra Costa County). Her adoption fee is $150.
Please contact Charisse at (408) 320-3886 or Desiree at (510) 575-5086.

GSRSV became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization in March 2013. All donations to GSRSV are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Since February 2001, Brian Foran has funded GSRSV primarily on his own. Donations have played--and continue to play--a huge part in keeping GSRSV afloat, as adoption fees are a drop-in-the-bucket compared with the costs of running a large rescue program.
To make a monetary donation, please go to the donation page on GSRSV's Website: www.gsrsv.org/DonationsNeeded.htm.
Thanks for your support!

Because I am an independent rescuer caring for many dogs, I am presently unable to conduct regular adoption or "meet & greet" events.
I only arrange for people to meet the dogs that I have available for adoption after I have discussed the dog and have received an adoption questionnaire from them.

More about this rescue
German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley (GSRSV) is an organization dedicated to finding good homes for German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) at risk of being placed in shelters, or who are already in shelters and possibly facing euthanasia. GSRSV is an independent rescue organization operated by one individual: Brian Foran. Though countless volunteers and benefactors have supported--and continue to support--GSRSV, I run and primarily fund the program, as I have since February 2001.
