Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sawyer is a handsome male Pit Bull who has come such a long way on his journey! When he first arrived, he was completely feral and unsure about people or the world around him. With patience, trust, and lots of love, Sawyer has blossomed into a sweet, energetic boy who now enjoys going on walks and even snuggling with his favorite humans.

He’s still learning what it means to be a “domestic dog,” so he’ll need a home with someone who can continue to guide him, be patient, and help him keep building confidence. Sawyer feels most comfortable outside and loves exploring the great outdoors.

We’re not sure how he does with other dogs, and we don’t think he’d do well with cats. Sawyer is looking for someone special who can help him continue his journey and show him just how good life as a beloved pet can be. 💕

We have a medical fund at our shelter vet, Claws and Paws. You can donate to this fund by calling (804) 598-8030 and asking to donate to the animal control fund. Thank you!

Their adoption process

1.
Meet the Pet

If you see a pet you are interested in, please come by the shelter Monday- Friday from 9am-4pm to meet the pet you are interested in.

2.
Submit Application

If you have another dog they will need to meet the dog you are interested in. You will need to fill out an adoption application next.

3.
Approve Application

We will now review your application and either approve it or not. If approved, you will be contacted about picking up your new animal.

4.
Take the Pet Home

You will be able to take your new pet home now! We do have an adoption fee of $25 exact cash or check.

We do not do same day adoptions.

Go meet their pets

We are open for meet and greets Monday - Friday from 9am until 4pm. Our address is 4000 Old Plantation Rd Powhatan VA 23139.

We do the monthly adoption events with Sanctuary Rescue at their Hull Street Rd location known as Liz's Place. 16916 Hull Street Road, Moseley, Va 23120. This event is held the first Saturday of every month between 10 am and 1 pm.

We do recommend calling ahead and letting us know when you would like to come, but if you come in between 9am and 4pm, that will be perfectly fine!
