Michonne may be 12 years old, but don’t let the number fool you — this spry, spayed Dutch Shepherd is living proof that age is just a statistic. She has the grace of a wise old soul and the energy of a dog half her age. She even jogs with volunteers, casually reminding everyone that she’s still got moves. She loves treats and sits politely for them, showing off her good manners like a true lady.
At the fence, Michonne has shown friendly behavior with several dogs — lots of nose sniffing and even a few face kisses. Her previous family shared many wonderful things: she’s housebroken, good on leash, has had training, and was friendly with adults and children. She didn’t escape and loved chew toys and bones. Playful, smart, devoted, and full of life, Michonne is ready for her next chapter — one where she can enjoy love, comfort, and all the treats she sits so nicely for. She may be a senior, but she’s still got plenty of joy, energy, and heart to give.

All shelter locations are conducting animal viewing and adoptions on a first come, first serve basis. We are not able to move a pet from one location to another for your viewing.
The adoption fee is waived for all available pets in care and in foster homes. Standard adoption practices will still be in place, including background checks.

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) expanded the shelter days of service to seven days a week with operational hours of 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and pet viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m for both the east and west side shelter locations.
