Stanley von Soest is a stunning 12 month old German Shepherd mixed with a touch of something else. With the softest coat and a very sweet disposition, Stanley loves to be the center of attention, he'll climb in your lap and snuggle up close. He's friendly with everyone he meets, but just might not be for small kids as he tends to be a bit puppy nibbly (after all he's still a youngster himself). He enjoys playing with toys and is a smart, eager boy who wants to please and already knows his "Sit" and "Down" commands. Stanley does well on walks around the rescue, including alongside other dogs. In playgroups he explores the yard and is a good greeter, friendly but not pushy. He seems to prefer being with calmer easygoing dogs. Cats are not on his friend list, however.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.
Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
