Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Rocko!
At 8 years old and 52 lbs, Rocko is every bit as sweet and soulful as he looks. He’s a calm, loving Boxer mix with a gentle demeanor and a heart full of devotion for his people.
Rocko is an excellent adventure buddy. He may pull strongly at first or when he’s excited, but once he settles into a rhythm, he walks beautifully. On trails and longer walks, he stays focused, listens well, and maintains an easy, steady pace. He shows no interest in wildlife and is simply happy to explore alongside his human.
This boy is incredibly smart and highly treat-motivated. He loves training, picks up on routines quickly, and is very attentive. He already knows sit, shake, down, wait, “eh eh,” no, and his name, and he accepts treats with perfect manners. With continued structure, he should keep making great progress with leash skills. He’s also likely house-trained based on his clean habits and consistency.
Rocko shows some playful curiosity with toys and will adorably pounce on them like a cat, though his interest usually fades quickly. What he *really* loves is companionship — but not in a clingy way. At the shelter he can seem reserved, but in a home his affectionate side shines. He’ll softly rub against your legs like a cat, curl up next to you on the couch, and enjoy calm, cozy moments with his people. When he gets excited during petting he may get the slightest bit mouthy (with no pressure), but he’s very easy to redirect.
Rocko is wonderfully polite in public. He meets people with friendly curiosity and relaxed body language. He’s comfortable around other dogs and remains calm and non-reactive, even in close proximity. He’s cooperative for baths, even willingly stepping into the tub on his own, and he rides well in the car.
Rocko is affectionate, medium-energy, heartworm negative, and beautifully well-rounded — a steady, thoughtful companion who brings quiet warmth wherever he goes.
If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal, loving best friend, Rocko is ready to brighten your life.
As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog-to-dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.
To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
