It`s hard not to smile when you see a Daffodil. Daffodil (Aka Daffy) is a 2 year old Border Collie mix who found herself in our care in October 2025 as a stray. We could quickly tell she was once someone`s beloved pet. She is as sweet as they come. Daffodil walks perfectly on a leash, knows sit, leave it, and will roll over for belly rubs. With her pretty brown eyes and adorable birthmark on her nose, we know you`ll fall in love. She loves everyone she meets, especially when you give her scratches behind her ears. She has even been on WLOX News as the `Pepsi pet of the week`. She is dog friendly, up to date on all vaccines, and will be spayed upon adoption. Daffodils are a symbol for new beginnings, she just needs YOU to take the first step to adoption!

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
