Hi there!
My name is Josie and I’m searching for my forever family!
A little about me: I’m young, happy, smart, silly, and full of love. I adore anything soft and cozy (blankets, pillows, your lap… you name it!) and will happily make it my bed.
I’m currently fostered with kids, and they make my tail wag nonstop! I love giving cuddles and soaking up attention from anyone—big or small. I also live with other dogs and do well with them, as long as we have a separate area to eat my food and chew high value bones.
I enjoy spending time outside, taking in all the sights and sounds (birds, cars, trees, neighbors), it’s all so interesting! I love to play with toys! I can entertain myself with stuffies and play tug of war with a passion! When I play with my foster family, I know to be very careful with my mouth and only gently play bite.
I wouldn’t make a good guard dog because I love when people come to the door! I’m so happy to meet new friends when I’m out and about or when they come to my house. I ride well in the car, as long as I’m in the backseat. If you put in the front seat next to you, I’ll try to ride on your lap!
At night, I sleep soundly in bed with my people (because cuddles are very important to me)! We keep each other nice and warm. I have the cutest little snores. I’m proud to say I’m fully potty trained. When my family leaves, I can be trusted to stay out and behave. I don’t mind the kennel but given the choice, I’d prefer to have freedom.
I would love to live in a home with lots of cheese. Cheese is my love language! You can get me to do anything with the right amount of cheese!
If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who will love you endlessly, I think we’d make a perfect match.
Please note that I was just treated for heartworm, which means I’ll need a few weeks of down time and rest. I have medication to help me stay nice and calm. A few weeks ago I had surgery for a dislocated elbow. Everything went well! I’ve still lot a little limp but I’m building strength and the vet says my recovery is going great!
Josie is estimated to be 3 years old and 26 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.
If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.
We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!
Please note: All dogs/puppies will not be at every event, and some may find their home prior to the event. If you are interested in a specific animal, please check our Facebook page for confirmed attendance the morning of the event: https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/
You do not need to have a Facebook account to check the Safe Hands Facebook page for attendance. We hope to see you at an upcoming Meet & Greet!

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

More about this rescue
Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.
We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.
This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
