Meet Boo, a handsome 20-month-old black tabby who has never met a stranger and gives the best hugs in the business! Boo is the definition of social, greeting everyone with the same warm, "hey, mate, how you been?" energy. He is intensely devoted to his people and thrives on being the center of attention (he gives the best head butts!).
🗣️ The Vocal Companion
There’s one thing Boo truly despises: closed doors! He thinks the creator of doors should be listed as public enemy number one and will voice his displeasure very loudly (but not destructively!) if he is separated from the household action. If you're looking for a quiet companion, Boo is not your guy—but if you want someone who loves you without reservation, he is perfect!
👨👩👧👦 Social Life & Boundaries
Boo is ready to join a busy, loving household:
Great with Cats: He loves other cats after a proper introduction and prefers to avoid confrontation.
Ready for Dogs: He is expected to transition smoothly to life with a cat-neutral dog.
Kids: He adores kids who respect his boundaries! He's a wonderful snuggler (he even snuggled his 4-year-old human foster brother all night!), but he's a bit nervous about being dropped by the littles. He thrives on pets and snuggles, but dislikes being squished or forcibly held.
When he’s not giving warm hugs, you can find this purrfect gentleman (great litter box manners!) spying on squirrels from his favorite 6-foot cat tree. He sometimes likes to play "catch the human by the toe" at bedtime, but he understands the word "no" and settles down quickly.
Boo has an immense amount of love to give and is ready for a family of his own!

Interview
We will call to discuss the kind of cat you would like to add to your family. We will also contact your vet and references so let them know!

Approve Application
You receive an email with a tentative approval pending your home visit, with a link to schedule it at your convenience.

Home Check
A quick video home visit to alert you to any dangers in your home or areas of concerns for a cat (example - crystal glassware on shelves).
5.
Meet the Pet
Come meet a specific cat at a meet and greet planned for you or come to one of our adoption events to pick out your new friend.
6.
Sign Adoption Contract
The adoption contract lists your responsibilities for the safety and health of your new family member.
7.
Pay Fee
Standard domestics: $150 young kitten, $125 juvenile kitten, $75 adult. You pay when you adopt or if you choose to reserve.

Shady's Paw Animal Rescue works diligently to pair our cats with the perfect home. The adoption process can be done in a few hours or it can take weeks - it just depends on when your references call us back and when you schedule your home visit.

Adoption events are held regularly in the community at Petco Winchester VA every other Saturday. Additional events are held at area festivals, wineries, breweries, and parks. Approved adopters can schedule a private meet and greet with their chosen pet. Same day adoptions are not done, so please apply in advance of any adoption event to give us time to check vet and personal references and to complete the video home visit.
