My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Orca 🐾

Orca is a 7-month-old beagle/husky mix weighing about 35 pounds—and she’s truly cute as can be! Even at her young age, Orca has an impressively even temperament and a heart full of love. She adores everyone she meets, both dogs and people alike, and approaches the world with a friendly, happy-go-lucky attitude.

This bright girl even enjoyed a successful sleep-over with a foster family, where she did wonderfully with the resident cats—proof of her adaptable and gentle nature. Orca has been shining in the Puppies for Parole program, where she’s working on house-training, crate-training, leash skills, overall manners, and basic obedience. She’s a star student who’s eager to learn and eager to please.

With her sweet personality, solid foundation of training, and loving spirit, Orca would make a fantastic addition to just about any home.

Additional adoption info

We make adoptions as easy as possible for the community.

Go meet their pets

St. Joseph Animal Services has an adopter’s welcome policy. Our goal is to minimize adoption barriers and make adopting a pet a positive experience. Animal shelter staff and volunteers use conversations and counseling to help match adoptable pets with customers. The adopter’s welcome policy embraces the community, assumes positive intent, and supports people and pets.

Dogs and cats that are the property of the city will be adopted to the public on a first come, first serve process. Potential adopters must physically come to the shelter to meet and adopt a pet. The availability of animals cannot be guaranteed, and animals will not be placed on hold for adopters.

The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1pm-5:30pm. We are located at 701 Lower Lake Road, St. Joseph, MO 64504.
