Kaia is a five year old, friendly, affectionate girl who has a wonderful way of making people feel instantly welcome. She loves meeting new people, does well with other dogs, and carries herself with a happy, easygoing presence. We’re not sure how she feels about cats just yet.
Kaia has a big fan on our shelter staff who has spent a lot of time working with her one on one, helping her learn and practice real-life skills. She already knows how to sit and wait, and they are currently working on leash manners and “leave it.” Kaia is very treat motivated, which makes her a great candidate for continued training and learning in a home setting.
At five years old, Kaia offers a wonderful alternative to a puppy. She still enjoys activity and play, but she’s past the constant chaos and is more ready to settle into a routine. She’s the kind of dog who can join you for a walk and then be perfectly content relaxing afterward.

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
