My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.

Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website.

We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run.

We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have.

Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.

General Notes | Mama Mia is a sweet, beautiful black lab who just gave birth and weaned 10 babies! She is ready for the good life in her forever home. This wonderful girl is a true super trooper—she has already mastered the art of raising pups and now she’s ready for her own long-deserved spotlight. Mama Mia is incredibly sweet, patient, and loving, giving the best cuddles and gentle attention. She’s looking for a family to share her "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" for affection with. Mia will need a little extra TLC - she suffered a leg injury months ago that doesn't allow her to put weight on her front left paw. She gets around well, but it will likely require surgery. She is so worth it - all dogs are special, but Mia is a really rare gem. She'll steal your heart immediately... her favorite hobby is snoozing with her head in a human's lap.

Personality | Affectionate, gentle, sweet, & starting to show some spunk!

Story |  Mia was rescued from a kill shelter in Houston while pregnant with her puppies.

Other Dogs | Great! I think she will do well with any dog long term, but may prefer a calm dog while she's recovering

Cats | Unsure, but likely great! She's gentle & hasn't shown any prey drive.

Children | Unsure, but likely great! May do best with older children who are a bit more predictable :)

Training | Housetrained - no accidents!

Leash | Great on a leash.

Activity Level | Low, for now. Likely moderate energy level once she recovers - you can see some spunkiness shining through :)

Health Notes | Heartworm positive & being treated for a leg injury. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment with one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Mia!

Thank you! |

Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process.

Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!

We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
