Trixie was found as a stray around nine months ago (from 11/2025) and taken to the small, rural shelter in Wortham, Texas. She was very skinny and very, very stressed. She was very vocal and would not calm down. A week after arriving at the shelter, she unexpectedly gave birth to five puppies- they didn’t even know she was pregnant and she was actually scheduled for spay a few days later! Trixie was a very fierce mama! She protected her puppies and loved them through the highest temperatures of Texas summer heat. Once the pups were old enough they were all transferred to rescues and adopted. Trixie patiently waiting for her turn.
Every day since arriving at the Wortham shelter, Trixie has grown calmer and happier. After being on the streets, pregnant and alone, her babies were finally safe and she could relax. Nine months later she is just sweetest dog. She is ready for her perfect, happy home.
Unfortunately Trixie, and all the animals at the Wortham shelter, have little prospects as the shelter does little to no adoptions. There is a small group of individuals in Wortham that work tirelessly to network (and vet, on a very limited budget) these animals to foster-based rescues in and out of Texas that are willing to consider them. Red Fern was contacted by one of these volunteers who together with her high school daughter, go to the holding facility every day to walk the dogs, socialize them, take them to the vet, and just spend quality time with them.
Trixie loves food and treats! She loves to run and gets adorable zoomies. Trixie LOVES to play with other dogs. Her best friend is a Husky named Luka who is also available for adoption, so if you're looking for a pair- you've found them!
