My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mello is ready to be loved…again.  This 10 year young, 11-lb Yorkshire Terrier almost had an adoption lined up, but plans changed before anyone even got the chance to meet him. His foster mom describes him as: Energetic. Loving. Attached. He’s a confident little velcro buddy who truly believes every person on the street is just another long lost friend ready to pet him! At home, Mello is observant, affectionate, and entertaining. Park walks? He invented them. Leaf sniff-a-thons? Gold medalist. Neighborhood supervision from his window perch? That’s his unpaid community service. He also runs a very serious (but adorable) sock retrieval department around the house. He’s friendly with other dogs with a gentle, proper intro, super sweet and social around children, and while he hasn’t met cats yet, he would probably be just fine with them. City noise can feel a little overwhelming sometimes, but calm reassurance, treats, and love help him feel confident! His neuter and dental surgery are scheduled for next week, and we expect this to support his continued progress with his potty routine and house training! His ideal home is patient, calm, loving, and filled with humans who are around often, maybe work-from-home, maybe multiple people for even more cuddles, bonus points for a park or grassy walking route nearby for his daily confidence strolls and sniff adventures!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
