My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Eleanor is an expert snuggler looking for the person who will appreciate her goofy, loving affection. She likes to throw herself in your lap for pets and belly rubs, and she’ll take every opportunity she can get to give you kisses. Couch cuddles? Yes please! She bonds quickly and wants to stay near her people whenever possible. Eleanor’s quick loyalty can make her protective over her people, so she would do best without young children in the home who she may feel an extra need to safeguard.

This smart, alert girl is quick to learn commands, and already started learning “sit” and “here”. She loves all toys and play- plush toys are best for tearing apart in search for squeakers, squeaky tennis balls are great for fetch, and tug toys are favorites for keep-away and chase. She is learning leash manners and has experience with a dog door. She is extremely food motivated but this sweetie knows how to take treats gently and not beg. She has a history of doing well with housebreaking and other gentle dogs in the home.

Ellie is a beauty with so much love to give, and she is appreciative of everything given back to her. She will be a faithful companion to whatever person is lucky enough to take her home.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
