Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Maisie!
Good with dogs?
Yes. Maisie plays enthusiastically with medium and large dogs. She is a high energy girl and loves to play with other dogs her size with similar play style.
Good with cats?
No. Maisie has a high prey drive which could be typical of her breed. We do not recommend a home for her with other small animal pets.
Good with kids?
Maisie doesn't know her physical limits or boundaries yet. It's not aggression but clumsiness and enthusiasm. She may do well in a home with older children. She is working on not jumping up but could easily knock small children over.
Energy level?
This is a high energy girl who delights in play, exercise, walks/hikes and adventure. She loves to ride in the car! She is athletic and strong.
Medical/behavioral needs?
Maisie has no known medical needs. She does resource guard her food from other dogs. She does not display similar behavior with humans. She eats voraciously, but she takes treats very gently.
House trained?
Maisie is mostly house trained, but she does have occasional accidents. Her communication is the same whether she wants to go out or she's hungry, so she needs someone to teach her a specific communication for needing to go potty.
Animal Characteristics?
Maisie is a super intelligent young dog who will thrive with obedience training and who loves a mental challenge. When she sets her mind to something (finding a hidden toy or solving a doggie puzzle, for example) she is determined and tenacious to the end!
She knows the following commands: Out of here. Off now! Potty outside? Go inside. Thirsty? Hungry? Come! Get your toy! And she understands directional hand gestures.
She likes to show off her toys, but she doesn't want them taken from her. She doesn't get mean--just very enthusiastic about the game "keep away."
Although she is slow to warm to strangers, once she has developed trust (treats and patience help) she displays strong desire to be near her people. You’ll know you’ve arrived when she nudges your hand to be petted. She is very affectionate, loves belly rubs and will try to climb up and sleep on your lap. If that’s not possible, she will nap at your feet. Although she will go and sleep in her crate, if the door is closed, she barks and cries. She would much rather sleep on the bed with her people.
Maisie will be a very loyal and loving dog to the right family!

More about this rescue
Indigos Rescue Ranch and Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide care, shelter, fostering opportunities and adoptive homes for Jackson County’s homeless dogs until such time as we can find them a suitable “forever home.” Regardless of breed, size or age, we accept dogs into our shelter and ensure they have safe and happy lives while we seek suitable homes for them. We believe so strongly in our mission, that where hard to place dogs are concerned (e.g., older, disabled or special needs dogs), Indigo’s becomes their forever home so they may live out their lives with the love, care, and attention they deserve.
