My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rascal is a sensitive soul with a huge heart just waiting to fully trust the right person. He was surrendered through no fault of his own after being bullied by another cat, and the shelter environment was understandably overwhelming for him.

Once he moved into foster care, though, Rascal began to truly shine. In his foster home, Rascal has made incredible progress. He’s becoming more confident every day—playing enthusiastically (mouse toys are a favorite!), exploring his space, and seeking out attention. He’s quite vocal and will happily let you know when he wants love. While loud noises and people approaching while standing can still startle him, he’s learning quickly and no longer hides, which is a big step forward for this brave boy.

Rascal is an absolute cuddle bug once he’s comfortable. He loves nighttime snuggles and has been a devoted emotional support buddy to his foster. He tends to form a deep bond with his person and would happily pick a favorite human to cling to and adore. He thrives on attention and interactive play, so he’s looking for a home where he can be truly doted on.

He has also surprised everyone with his positive interactions with other cats in foster care, showing curiosity and friendliness when introductions are done slowly. That said, Rascal may do best in a calm, quiet home and could be especially happy as the only pet—or with patient, respectful companions.

Rascal is a loving, loyal companion who just needs a little time and understanding to feel safe. Once he does, his devotion is unmatched. He’s more than ready to find his furrever home and someone to love as much as he loves them.

Additional adoption info

The Ames Animal Shelter's adoption process is all about ensuring the right match for the benefit of both the people and the animal. We use our application screening process to pre-approve applicants for general adoption. This gets all the boring paperwork stuff out of the way so when you come in to the shelter we can focus with you on finding the perfect furry friend match.

Our applications are not a simple pass/fail process, but instead are an opportunity for us to gather information on the needs of your family and the situation you'll be bringing an animal into.
